I was talking with Darby tonight
about voting for President, and I asked him if he wanted to be President and
that I’d vote for President Darby. He said he’d do it, but he couldn’t be
President until he was “a young old grown up.”
I asked him if he’d raise or lower
taxes, and he said, “lower.” I asked if he’d have a war or no war, and he said,
“a war.” Apparently, President Darby would be
Republican.
I asked him how he’d fix the
economy, and he said, “with a hammer and some tools.” Makes as much sense as
anything I’ve heard in weeks.
And finally, when asked what other
policies he’d have as President, he replied, that “people should be able to do
what they want” and that “people should always eat healthy food before they eat
non-healthy food.” Not only does he express the need for a healthy America, but
a free America, where non-healthy food is still available, and a part of the
options available for all Americans.
He will be eligible to run for President in 2038, but there isn't an election until 2040, so... Frost in 2040! | | |
| I guess there's just not a lot going on in my life...

| So this is my new terrible towel. It may need to be returned. We've lost twice in two games since I got it for Christmas.

| My church is planning a 21-day fast this month, and is encouraging all of us to consider what to fast - if it's a food fast, or some kind of other fast (internet, tv, some other hobby or interest). I asked about fasting the actual fast itself, and the answer was no. And I asked if you can't afford to buy food, if that counts as a fast - also no. So I'm gonna have to think about this one. Some things might actually stand in the way of my job - i often do some last minute internet searching to refresh and find new info for literature discussion; certainly email is indispensable; I show films in class fairly often.
From my vantage point, I see the best thing about the fast is spending that time for the meal (for example) in prayer. I piddle a good deal of time with email and internet - like right now - but it'd be harder to instead spend this time in prayer. So, I'm thinking that for my first real fast, probably food is the way to go. I'd like to think that I could do the whole thing - just water for 21 days - but i'm not sure if I'll make it. I'm thinking of fasting lunch for 21 days - and taking that hour to leave my office for a prayer time (either on a walk or to the prayer chapel on campus).
Anyone else with thoughts on fasts?

| A merry one to all of you who get this.
I'm at my parent's in Pennsylvania - glad for family to be together and glad for a time of reflection. Unfortunately, we got here a week too late to have a white christmas, so we get to have a 50 degree christmas...
Best present: a Terrible Towel, so I can root for my AFC North Champion Pittsburgh Steelers.
It was fun to watch the kids open their presents - they both got cowboy boots!
Backstory: my family has a history of packing christmas presents into boxes from previous years, so what is on the box is rarely what is IN the box. My children don't know this. Darby unwrapped a present where the box inside was for some type of indoor grill (foreman-esque), but turned out to be jammies or something. But, new classic statement: IT'S BACON! I GOT BACON!
The coincidence, we're having bacon and eggs for breakfast now.
Love who you have and enjoy what you've got.
Be merry and be blessed - they are both choices.
